Our Story

The Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop story begins in the kitchens of our grandmothers, Ruth and Edith, from Arkansas and Mississippi. Known for their quirky sayings, firm beliefs and delicious pies, biscuits and preserves, our grandmothers left a lasting mark on our hearts.

Scott grew up on a 1500-acre farm in rural Missouri, driving tractors and helping his Granny can fruit pies and preserves. Those experiences shaped his strong work ethic and love for handmade baked goods, setting the quality standard at Buttermilk Sky.

Meredith, a Memphis city girl, spent Friday nights at her Nanny’s house making tea biscuits and pies. Nanny, known in the community as the “pie lady,” inspired Meredith’s love for baking. While Scott’s Granny excelled in fruit pies, Nanny specialized in cream and pecan pies. Meredith’s memories inspired the idea for our 4” Mini Pies, which came from a child-sized skillet she and Nanny used together.

Today, Meredith’s and Scott’s childhood memories and entrepreneurial dreams shape almost every facet of our pie shops.

We proudly invite you to enjoy our family’s traditional, one-of-a-kind Southern recipes only available at Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop.

Pie It Forward: A Tradition of Giving

Sharing food and experiences with others is at the core of our mission. That’s why we started Pie It Forward. Each month, a portion of the proceeds of one of our pies is donated to an organization in one of our communities.

Let us know if you’d like us to consider your charity for our Pie It Forward pie of the month.
